I just want everyone to know I am NOT an apostate….i have not turned my back on Jehovah.
Of course you haven't!!! Many of us here have not turned our backs on God either! In fact we have chosen to be loyal to God over everything, even an organization that claims to be His ONLY representatives.
Remember that there are many that did this in the Bible. Jesus would've been considered an apostate according to WT standards. He would've been disfellowshipped for His speaking out against the Jewish leaders. He completely went against the teachings from men and what was considered to be God's organization back in His day. He was loyal to TRUTH over any organization.
The OT prophets too were loyal to God OVER any type of organization. Jeremiah spoke against what really WAS God's organization back in his day because of the lies that they were teaching. He was abused and humiliated for it.
Remember that we need to be loyal to truth over all things. Be determined to follow truth whereever it leads you. Also remember that it is lies, not truth, that hide from close examination. Truth has nothing to fear from questions, examination, and research.
You'll find a great group of people here. Some are elders and MS's. Some have faded. Some are fully out. There is a perspective for nearly everyone here. You were conditioned to be afraid to talk to people that have questioned the organization. But again, truth has nothing to fear. If someone is telling lies about the organization, it will come out and be easily discoverable. You will find that people that are questioning the organization are not so scary and evil as you were always told.
Anyway, WELCOME, MSconcerned!!!

Note the title of the link. It's different from the title of the article. It's "Pressure to be gay". Wha?!?!?

I was bullied in school. 7th grade, for me, was one of the worst years. The few times I ever defended myself I would get in trouble from my parents, even if someone else came up to me and punched me unprovoked. So in 7th grade I decided to take the approach largely outlined in the video. I would walk away, I would try to joke around with the bully, I talked to the guidance counselor about it as well. Nothing worked.
In 7th grade this guy named Jack had it out for me for some reason. It wasn't just teasing either. I sat in front of him in a few of my classes. He would take the eraser off his pencil, bite the metal piece that holds the eraser so it was sharp, and the flick me in the back of my head. Usually drawing blood. I begged my math teacher to sit somewhere else, telling him what was going on. He told me, "I've never seen him do anything to you..."
One day, after almost a year of this abuse, he set a pin into the eraser and flicked me with it. The pin stuck in my head. Finally, I saw red, stood up, and layed a haymaker directly into his nose. I felt it snap, and he flew back into some desks which also landed on his face. I was suspended...he got nothing. His parents threatened to sue mine for medical bills, which never happened. But that was the ONLY thing that stopped the bullying. He never messed with me again.
I'm not sure that I can recommend my actions. But nothing else worked... Of course, because I still refused to fight after that, I was bullied by others through my high school years. It was not much fun being me back then.

Ha! Good point Amelia! I didn't even think of that when I was watching. The Watchtower is one of the biggest bullies ever!

I'm not sure if anyone posted these or not, or even if these are new. I just saw them for the first time on the JW.org site. It looks like they are slowly building up their online material. It's pretty meager right now. I'd like to know what everyone thinks about these two.
The first is a somewhat clever whiteboard animation video called: Beating a bully without using your fists. I'll give credit where credit is due. This video has a good look and feel and may be helpful for 10 - 12 year olds. As much as it pains me to say, I think they've given some good info here. Although a short 3 min video is not going to completely equip a child to deal with a bully. And it does not acknowledge that there ARE times when you need to defend yourself. But besides that...I've gotta say they actually did a good job: http://www.jw.org/en/bible-teachings/family/teenagers/whiteboard-animations/beat-a-bully-without-using-your-fists/
The other is a pretty useless video about using cell phones. If I would've watched this as a teen, I would've thought what dorks these kids were... And it really doesn't say anything profound or even usefull, IMO. http://www.jw.org/en/bible-teachings/family/teenagers/what-your-peers-say/about-cell-phones/
I'd like to know what you all thought about these.

Talked to Phone Witnessing JWs
by jamiebowers ini usually can't hear someone knocking on the door of our enclosed porch, so i haven't spoken to a jw in person in the ten years that we've been at this house.
and being that the temperatures are currently very cold in northeast ohio, i suppose the jws are doing telephone witnessing.
so, today i had the opportunity to talk to two real live jws.

NICE!!! Wow...those are things I've dreamt about saying to JWs, but never got the chance. Asking them to add you back on to their calling list once the WT changes it's two witness policy...CLASSIC!!! This is the best thing I've read all day!

Christian questions to ask current JWs
by Christ Alone inhere are some questions that i thought would be interesting to ask a jw if they were open to a free and open discussion.
this assumes a christian worldview that the bible is the word of god.
if you have any others, please post them!

Which of these 18 questions has no answer in the WT CD-ROM?
Great question. From what I've seen the answers to these on the CD are either not answered or they are answered very basically. For example, there is no discussion (at least that I have found) why Jesus is called "Mighty God" in Isaiah 9:6 and that means He is NOT Almighty and why Jehovah is spoken of as "Mighty God" in Isaiah 10:21,22 but this does not mean that He is not Almighty God. If there IS an answer to this somewhere, I'd like to see it.
Many of the "answers" to these questions on the CD may not be sufficient for some JWs. The explanation of John 20:28 requires a huge leap. Their answer implies that Thomas, midsentence, redirects his comment from Jesus to Jehovah. Contextually this should not make sense to a JW that is willing to think for themselves. Thomas is very clearly calling Jesus "The God" in this text, even using the definite article and saying "HO THEOS!" If ho theos refers only to Jehovah, then Thomas is saying that Jesus is Jehovah, and Jehovah does not just refer to the Father.
All of these questions, however, require some independent thinking on the part of JWs.
One of the posters here questioned the personality of the Holy Spirit saying that other qualities are personified. While this is true, the context doesn't fit this interpretation when speaking of the Holy Spirit. For example Acts 13:2 says: "While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”" This is a historical narrative and doesn't allow for a non literal reading. Here we have a PERSON SAYING something specific to the apostles. I believe the offical belief of the Watchtower is that an angel said these words to them. But that isn't allowed for in the reading. The text specifically states WHO said these words. It was not Jesus who spoke. It was not the Father who spoke. It was not an angel who spoke. It was the Holy Spirit who SAID these words and referred to HIMSELF as "I". This was in fulfillment of Jesus promise that He would send the Holy Spirit as their helper.
Most of these questions are merely an attempt to open a dialogue with a JW. Some may not wish to listen. But some may wish to discuss the Bible with you. And you may be able to plant a seed that may not be obviously beneficial immediately, but may grow with time. If you can get a JW to think "Hmmm...their explanation doesn't make much sense", that may be a seed that can grow later.
